In 2012, American journalist and author Theo Padnos was captured in Syria by Al Qaeda forces. He was tortured and imprisoned for two years. After his unlikely release, he recounted his experience for the New York Times Sunday Magazine and later the 2016 documentary, Theo Who Lived.
A fluent Arabic speaker, Padnos has also written about his time in Yemen exploring facets of Jihadi and Islamist radicalization in the book, Undercover Muslim.
Kicking off the Norwich University Writers Series 2017-18 lecture series, Padnos visited campus yesterday to speak with students and give a public talk about his experiences and insights.
